From Struggles to Stability: How Reseed Empowered a Father of Eight

At 45, Mohamed faced immense challenges in providing for his family of eight. Originally a subsistence farmer in the village of Makata, the burden of his responsibilities led him to move to Lunsar in search of better opportunities. Determined to secure a trade that could support his family in the long term, he began learning bread baking, a skill he believed would help him earn a living to support his family.

After years of dedication as an apprentice, Mohamed had mastered the craft of baking, but tragedy struck when his mentor passed away. Left without guidance or the funds to sustain the business on his own, he faced an uncertain future.

This was when Reseed stepped in to offer support through a Microfinance Loan. Encouraged by a neighbour, Mohamed approached Reseed and received an initial loan of 500NLE (£19). This enabled him to purchase a bag of flour and other essentials to restart his baking business. Through hard work and timely repayments, he soon qualified for a larger loan of 1,000NLE (£37), which allowed him to expand his operations.

Today, Mohamed wholesales to other small traders and has four apprentices. This allows him to provide consistent meals for his children and support his family’s livelihood. This is a prime example of how the work we do at Reseed is not just a short-term fix; we tackle poverty at its core by helping individuals achieve financial stability.

Thanks to the support of Reseed’s donors, individuals like Mohamed can break free from poverty and create lasting change for themselves and their communities.
